My View written by Stephen Sorokoff
Marilyn Maye at 54 Below
There have been many memorable evenings at 54 Below since it opened 9 months ago, but for me it had it’s graduation to legendary nightclub status with the MAY-den VOYAGE of “Super Singer” Marilyn Maye’s current engagement. I’ve never been to an MM performance that hasn’t left her audience emotionally drained and exhilarated after the 100 minutes of listening to one of the worlds greatest Jazz/Pop/Entertainer vocalists. If she was 25 I would be saying this, but she happens to be approaching 85.
If you are a fan you know what I’m talking about. If you’re not in the “I Get It” club, do yourself a favor and hurry down (not up) to 54 Below. There is no way you will not become a member. This is not a show! This is an experience! That’s all I’m going to say; the rest you’ll have to hear for yourself.
(BTW I didn’t anoint her “Super Singer”-Johnny Carson did)
